The Mind, Brain and Behavior Research Center and the Department of Evolutionary and Educational Psychology at the University of Granada’s School of Psychology invite to the CIMCYC Talks titled “Verbal Interactions, Interpersonal Synchrony, and Social Neuroscience” and to an introductory workshop on hyperscan data analysis in MATLAB led by researcher Alejandro Pérez Fernández.
Alejandro Pérez Fernández is a Distinguished Professor at the University of La Laguna and a researcher at the University Institute of Neuroscience. His work focuses on the cognitive neuroscience of verbal communication, interpersonal synchrony, and the study of social interactions using techniques such as EEG, hyperscanning, and multimodal recordings. He currently leads a scientific infrastructure project and a knowledge-generation project, in addition to collaborating on private projects aimed at developing experimental tools and applications of social neuroscience in real-world contexts.

Alejandro will provide a general overview of his research on verbal communication, interpersonal synchrony, and multimodal recording of social interaction, with an emphasis on EEG hyperscanning studies and natural communicative situations.
- 12:00 p.m. Introductory workshop on hyperscanning data analysis in MATLAB
In this workshop, Alejandro will present an applied introduction to the hyperscanning data analysis workflow in MATLAB, including data organization, EEG preprocessing, synchronization between participants, extraction of measures of interpersonal synchrony, and some basic considerations for statistical analysis.
