The Past, Present, and Future of Research on Prejudice & Stereotypes

Abstract: Social psychology has been studying prejudice and stereotypes for over a century. Indeed, there are few topics as central to the field. Thus, I will review the ways we have conceptualized and examined prejudice and stereotypes and what we have learned. I will then reflect on how well our century of work helps us understand prejudice and stereotypes in the present, in the US, Europe and elsewhere. And, how well it helps us understand present (and future?) discrimination, exclusion, conflict, war, inequality, authoritarianism, fascism and other relevant social and political realities.
