The director of the Psychology of Social Problems research group (HUM 289), Miguel Moya, has been awarded the prestigious “Lifetime Achievement Award 2026” by the European Association of Social Psychology (EASP), one of the most prominent international scientific societies in the field of Social Psychology. This recognition is granted to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the field of social psychology research.
Miguel Moya is a Professor of Social Psychology at the University of Granada and director of the laboratory of psychosocial consequences of social class at the Center for Brain, Mind and Behavior Research (CIMCYC). Moya's career, spanning decades of dedication to research and university teaching, stands out not only for the exceptionally high quality of his academic contributions but also for the remarkable social commitment that has always guided his work. Accordingly, his primary lines of research have addressed the psychosocial analysis of prejudice and discrimination, sexism and its consequences, violence against women and the study of social class effects. Furthermore, throughout his academic career, he has undertaken research stays at various international institutions, including the University of Kent (UK), the University of California, Los Angeles [UCLA] (USA), Princeton (USA), Queensland (Australia) and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (Chile).
Notably, his leadership has helped boost the discipline and highlight the value of Spanish Social Psychology. This has been recognized through other awards previously granted to him. For instance, in 2017, the European Association of Social Psychology presented him with the “Jean-Paul Codol Award” for his contribution to the advancement of Social Psychology in Europe, and in 2021, the Association for Psychological Science honored him with the “Mentor Award”, which recognizes individuals who have shaped the development of Psychology by fostering the careers of students and colleagues. In this regard, researcher Miguel Moya has supervised more than 30 doctoral theses and published a numerous scientific papers in journals of recognized international impact. Finally, it is important to highlight how this award also recognizes his leadership capacity in numerous research projects, consolidating his status as one of the most influential scientists in Social Psychology research.
