The Mind, Brain and Behavior Research Center (CIMCYC) has achieved an outstanding result in the provisional resolution of the 2025 Knowledge Generation Projects call (Proyectos de Generación de Conocimiento), awarded by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI). In total, 16 projects led by center researchers have been proposed for funding, with a total budget exceeding 1.7 million euros to drive high-impact, excellent research at the center in the coming years.
This outcome represents one of CIMCYC’s greatest successes in this call and reflects the consolidation of its scientific and competitive capabilities. Out of 20 proposals submitted by center members, 16 were awarded funding, reaching an 80% success rate—substantially higher than the call's national average success rate of 43.94%.
Another notable achievement is the award of 10 predoctoral research grants (FPI contracts) associated with these projects. This represents a success rate of 62.5%, compared to the overall average of 33.7% in the call, which will allow the center to recruit new research talent and strengthen the training of CIMCYC’s next generation of scientists.
Furthermore, nine of the 16 funded projects are led or co-led by female principal investigators—a significant milestone that demonstrates progress in equal opportunity in research and highlights the female researchers’ scientific leadership.
The Knowledge Generation Projects call is one of Spain’s main instruments for competitive research funding. In its 2025 edition, the Spanish State Research Agency proposed funding for more than 3,400 projects with an investment of approximately 700 million euros, the largest budget allocation to date for this program.
These excellent results reinforce CIMCYC’s position as a leading research center in Psychology and related scientific fields, highlighting the quality of its scientific activity, the competitiveness of its research staff and the center’s ability to secure funding in highly competitive calls.
