The Mind, Brain and Behavior Research Center (CIMCYC) of the University of Granada will hold its 8th Research Conference on June 11 and 12, under the slogan “Science at the service of society”.
It will bring together national and international speakers alongside more than twenty associations, NGOs and public and healthcare sector entities
A space to boost collaboration between cutting-edge science, social agents, companies and public institutions
The meeting is designed to highlight and strengthen knowledge transfer in the fields of psychology and neuroscience. At the same time, it seeks to demonstrate the benefits of multidisciplinary and inter-institutional dialogue between academia and the public and private sectors to transform scientific evidence into solutions that directly impact people's quality of life.
The conference will feature experts in the design of R&D&I policies, knowledge transfer and social innovation. Fernando Mérida Martín, Deputy Director General for Knowledge Transfer at the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities of the Government of Spain, will open the conference with an analysis of knowledge valorization as a fundamental driver for regional development.
As an international speaker, Stefano Campostrini, Professor of Social Statistics at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and Director of the Governance & Social Innovation Center in Italy, will present his experience in designing social and health policies in collaboration with global organizations such as the WHO.
In line with governance and regional connections, Esteban Romero Frías, Vice-Rector for Social Innovation, Employability and Entrepreneurship at the University of Granada, will speak about successful models of social innovation based on scientific evidence. Finally, Carlos Sampedro Matarín, Director for Transfer and Innovation at the UGR, and Juan A. M. Orellana, Director of the Research Results Transfer Office (OTRI) at the UGR, will address the technical mechanisms to successfully transfer laboratory results to the productive and social fabric.
A meeting for dialogue between academia and society
The practical core of the conference will take place in two spaces: the “Research-Society Forum” (Thursday, June 11) and the “Social Agents Meeting” (Friday, June 12), designed as spaces for dialogue to share experiences, needs and collaboration opportunities.
Professionals from public management and intervention will participate in the “Social Agents Meeting”, including Ignacio Rosales Zábal (Head of Promotion and New Businesses at the Granada Provincial Council), Professor Mª del Mar Fuentes Fuentes (member of the UGR Social Council), Remedios Durán Benítez (educational counselor with experience in designing protocols for attention to diversity), David Cortés (Director of the Albayzín Municipal Center for Community Social Services) and Andalusian Health Service experts Belén Dengra Jordán and Raquel Sánchez Robles (leaders in complex case management and the humanization of healthcare processes in the Northeast Granada Health Management Area).
The “Research-Society Forum” will be attended by representatives from more than twenty social agents (NGOs, research centers, private institutions, spin-offs and associations) dedicated to psychosocial intervention, healthcare, neuropsychological rehabilitation, research, business and social development, and international cooperation.
Making a positive impact on society is a priority for researchers at the CIMCYC. The center maintains a continuous dialogue with public institutions, companies, professional associations, educational institutions and healthcare institutions. Thanks to these synergies, the center's research achieves a direct application in areas such as mental health, neuropsychology, education, social intervention and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
