University of Essex, Department of Psychology/Centre for Brain Science

7 Lecturer positions in Psychology (one of them with a special focus on motivation and emotion)

The Department of Psychology at the University of Essex is a large and vibrant department in the Faculty of Science and Health. We offer an excellent education to our students. All our undergraduate courses, and our MSc Psychology conversion course, are accredited by the British Psychological Society. We occupy purpose-built facilities including state-of-the-art EEG/ERP, eye-tracking, psycho-physiology and computerised testing labs. Adjacent to the building, academics also have access to the facilities housed in the Centre for Brain Science (CBS), which additionally includes TMS, tDCS, fNIRS, virtual reality, pain and human sexuality testing facilities. We are an outward looking department, internationally known for its excellence in research. We are currently in the process of planned growth and are looking for talented individuals who have an interest in contributing to our research mission to foster knowledge on Understanding our place in the world. Ideal candidates can contribute to one or more of our three research themes: 1) Thinking about the world; 2) Interacting with the world; 3) Experiencing the world.

The Department offers a rich and diverse environment and traditionally engages with a range of research across the University: we have strong links with the Department of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering (CSEE) who are known for their expertise in brain-computer interface, human-robot interactions, and speech and natural language processing work, amongst other core areas. In addition, staff collaborate with experts from the world-renowned Institute for Social and Economic research (ISER) on outstanding social science research projects. Similarly, synergies between the Department and the Institute for Analytics and Data (IADS) exist with the aim to deliver interdisciplinary research with leading impact. Our links across the faculty have been strengthened through major investment in a new STEM building, which consolidates and integrates our teaching and research infrastructure and will facilitate collaborations across disciplines. We welcome applicants from all fields of psychology in order to build on existing research strength.

The department is looking to make seven appointments at the Lecturer level. For six of them, we welcome applicants from all fields of psychology in order to build on our existing research strengths.

For one of them, we would like to specifically recruit scholars with a track record in motivation and emotion research, an area we would like to grow further: https://vacancies.essex.ac.uk/tlive_webrecruitment/wrd/run/ETREC107GF.open?VACANCY_ID=602021Jk7c&WVID=9918109NEm&LANG=USA.
