Exposure to similar stimuli and ingestion

Perceptual learning refers to the process by which mere exposure to similar stimuli enhances their subsequent discrimination. This learning also appears to be involved in eating behavior and obesity. Currently, massive exposure to junk food results in improved discrimination between sensory similar foods, leading to a lack of generalization of sensory-specific satiety and thus to an increase in consumption by the so-called "buffet effect".
