Researchers from the Mind, Brain and Behavior Research Center (CIMCYC) of the UGR are promoting the improvement of education for students with intellectual giftedness through their participation in the European project Erasmus+ YOUR BREAKTHROUGH: SMART SOLUTIONS FOR SMART MINDS. This initiative seeks to develop innovative solutions for the education sector.

Framed within Key Action 2 (Cooperation for Innovation and the Exchange of Good Practices, Strategic Partnerships) of the Erasmus+ program, the project YOUR BREAKTHROUGH: SMART SOLUTIONS FOR SMART MINDS aims to improve educational practices for students with high intellectual abilities, directly impacting their full inclusion in educational systems.

What can we improve in the educational/school care of giftedness?

The specific objectives of the project range from appropriate diagnosis to the identification of needs in educational centers, teacher training, raising awareness among classroom peers, and of course, enriching the students and fully integrating them into the educational system.

To achieve this, project members will develop five digital tools/platforms that will host informational resources based on scientific evidence, communication forums, and a bank of strategies that can be easily used in the daily context of children, their schools, and families.

So far, the teams from participating countries have completed work package two, which involves conducting a thorough analysis of the needs of intellectually gifted individuals. Two out of the five digital tools have also been developed: SELF-SCAN and SMART-APP.

SELF-SCAN will allow teaching teams to conduct a screening of their knowledge and training in identifying giftedness and the needs of these students. Meanwhile, SMART-APP will provide educational professionals with a series of audiovisual content that facilitates understanding of intelligence and giftedness, as well as their identification and diagnosis in the classroom.

These resources will have a broad international recognition. This is made possible through the participation of the Fundación Diocesana de Enseñanza Santos Mártires de Córdoba (project coordinators), the University of Granada, the University of Cyprus, and other European institutions and companies such as IDP SAS Di Giancarlo Costantino in Italy and SCALIQ BV in the Netherlands.

Coordinator Sara Mata, along with researchers Francisca Serrano, Macarena de los Santos, and María Carmona, members of the Mind, Brain, and Behavior Research Center (CIMCYC) at UGR, actively participate in the project thanks to the support of the Vice-Rectorate for Internationalization and the Office of International Relations.
