Conscious awareness has long been a subject of philosophical debate and has more recently become a focal point in cognitive neuroscience. Although much of human behavior operates beyond conscious awareness, its significance in daily life and society cannot be overstated.

Recent advancements in neuroimaging and data analysis methods, alongside novel theoretical models and behavioral paradigms, have significantly propelled the neuroscience of consciousness forward. Despite substantial progress, many central issues remain unresolved. This meeting will focus on discussing novel findings about the neural mechanisms of consciousness and exploring their broader implications within cognitive neuroscience.

Furthermore, this meeting will delve into the philosophy of science as it relates to consciousness research, addressing the fragmentation of definitions and challenging the ‘Theory of everything’ assumption of the field. Next, we will discuss the issue of evidence integration. The divergence of methodological approaches risks producing a range of interesting, yet concurrent rather than integrated empirical results. We argue that writing a review paper or using a computational model will not solve this issue. We aim to explore what neuroscientists would need to produce a genuine integration of experimental evidence.

To achieve these aims, a group of high-profile international experts and the local research community will come together in Granada to present their latest research. We will feature prominent figures in consciousness research such as Dr. Anil Seth, Dr. Jolien Francken, Dr. Victor Lamme, Dr. Axel Cleeremans, and Dr. Clare Press, among many others you can find in our Speakers section, who will address cutting-edge topics and will lead and contribute to discussions that align with our meta-scientific goals.

The outcomes of this meeting are expected to influence ongoing research directions and foster new collaborations.
