Every February 11, the international scientific community commemorates the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. This observance underscores the need to eliminate gender gaps and highlight the contributions—both historical and current—of women to the generation of knowledge. The Mind, Brain and Behavior Research Center (CIMCYC) joins this celebration with various activities aimed at making female leadership in research visible, inspiring scientific vocations and emphasizing the importance of including a gender perspective in research.
Exhibition: "Our Minds Uncovered… Women Scientists Shaping the History of the CIMCYC"
On February 11, at 10:00 a.m., the exhibition "Our Minds Uncovered… Women Scientists Shaping the History of the CIMCYC" will be inaugurated at the CIMCYC. Featuring 75 female researchers at various academic stages, this exhibition focuses on their career paths, achievements and contributions to science.
Using the artistic technique of photo-collage, each piece narrates fragments of their professional and personal lives. This interactive exhibition expands into the digital realm via a platform where visitors can explore the detailed profiles and reflections of each researcher. In this way, the project seeks not only to highlight academic achievements but also to provide a space for the stories, interests and reflections of scientists, offering a more human perspective on the research career.
Following its presentation at the CIMCYC, the exhibition will be displayed at the "Mariana Pineda" European Women’s Center of Granada to build bridges between academia and society, specifically targeting children and adolescents seeking vocational role models.

*Activity carried out with the support of the UGR Vice-Rectorate for Equality, Inclusion and Social Commitment of the University of Granada, and grant CEX2023-001312-M, funded by MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033.
Online Meeting: "Female Identities in Science. A Story in Four Acts" with the Science Park
The director of the CIMCYC, María Ruz, will participate in "Female Identities in Science. A Story in Four Acts," a meeting for children and adolescents organized by the Granada Science Park (Parque de las Ciencias). The event will be broadcast live from the museum’s auditorium to educational centers, ranging from primary to high school levels.
This encounter uses theater as a medium to explore how scientific identities are constructed and to address the gender gap in STEM sectors. Alongside María Ruz, professionals and students from different stages will participate, including a historical representation of chemist Rosalind Franklin.

-
Registration: Available until February 10 at 12:00 p.m. via the oficial form.

More Information: Available on the Science Park website.
School Visits
As part of its commitment to training future generations, researchers from the CIMCYC are participating in the "The University and its Environment" program, promoted by the Scientific Culture Unit (UCC) of the University of Granada.
Throughout February, researchers from the center will visit various high schools and primary schools to offer outreach talks on the role of women in research and present their specific lines of study.
As a highlight, on February 16, the CIMCYC will host a visit from IES El Parador (Almería). Centered on the theme of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, students will tour various laboratories, reflect on the importance of the gender perspective in research and engage in talks with scientists.
