Portada del libro Las pérdidas y sus duelos

The book "Las Pérdidas y sus Duelos. New Perspectives in the Study, Evaluation and Intervention" was published by Editorial Pirámide. It was coordinated by Francisco Cruz Quintana and María Nieves Pérez Marfil, members of CIMCYC, and Manuel Fernández Alcántara, from the University of Alicante, with the participation of national and international authors of great relevance in the study of grief and loss processes. Among the international authors, we highlight Robert Neimeyer, Emmanuelle Zech and Jacques Cherblanc.

At some point in our lives, we will experience grief associated with a significant loss. The death of a loved one, receiving the diagnosis of an illness, whether personal or family, the disappearance of a link with someone important, or not being admitted and recognized socially are examples of this.

These events, which we do not want, are generators of discomfort, pain, and suffering, and are complicated and sometimes complex to deal with daily. They highlight how vulnerable we are. What we do with them, with what happens to us and with the feelings they produce in us will determine, to a large extent, whether we can deal with them or remain trapped in the pain they produce in us.

This book aims to bring those who read it closer to a current understanding of this human experience from a broad and integrating point of view. We speak in the plural since, although it is a common process, there are many nuances and trajectories depending not only on the biographical history itself, which makes the process unique, but also on how and when it occurs (childhood, adolescence or adulthood), and also on its greater or lesser recognition by the society and culture in which we live.

The chapters, written by prestigious national and international professionals in this field, present the different models and current approaches, with special emphasis on processes that have not received much attention in the scientific literature (perinatal grief, ELGTBIQ+ couples, organ donation, etc.). Some novel approaches (such as film and simulation) are also developed to accompany these processes when necessary.

The professionals who read this book will be able to obtain an updated integration of how to situate different processes of loss and grief and how to evaluate and intervene in them. The general public, non-professionals, will find valuable guidelines to elaborate and resignify grief from constructing a sense of continuity and a different way of integrating and relating to what we have lost, allowing us to continue living.

For now, the book has been published in Spanish by Ediciones Pirámide.
