¡PsychoBoost! 3 Minutes of Science is an initiative of the Mind, Brain and Behavior Research Center aimed at raising awareness of the research career among undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Faculty of Psychology. It is part of a project designed to enhance research students’ skills in communication, science outreach and oral expression.

Format and structure of ¡PsychoBoost ! 3 Minutes of Science

The initiative is structured into two interconnected blocks:
(a) a training phase consisting of workshops on communication skills and oral and body expression, and
(b) a practical phase consisting of a scientific monologue competition.

Oral and body expression workshops:

This first block has a training-oriented approach, focused on the acquisition of expression and communication skills. These skills are essential for professional teaching and research practice (e.g., conference presentations, thesis defenses, teaching), and will also enable participants to learn how to convey their research in a clear and accessible way to non-specialist audiences. In addition to improving communicative skills themselves—both oral and bodily—the workshops aim to provide students with tools to manage insecurities or stress associated with speaking in front of large audiences. The workshop will be delivered by Larissa Ramos, interpreter, theatre director, and instructor at “La Carpintería”.

Scientific monologue competition:

Doctoral, Master’s, and undergraduate students who participate in the workshops will have the opportunity to put the techniques and skills acquired into practice by taking part in ¡PsychoBoost! 3 Minutes of Science, with undergraduate students as the audience. The event will consist of a session in which participating doctoral, Master’s, and undergraduate students will present their monologues, which will be related to the research line of their thesis / scholarship / internship. Undergraduate students attending as the audience will act as a popular jury and assign a score to each performance (*).

(*) The participation and evaluation rules of the competition will be published soon.

Target participants and available places

The following may participate in this initiative:

  • 22 doctoral students in Psychology and Speech Therapy.
  • 5 Master’s students from the Faculty of Psychology and Speech Therapy (research track).
  • 5 undergraduate students in Psychology and Speech Therapy with a link to research (collaboration or research initiation grants, research-oriented Bachelor’s theses, research internships, etc.).

Dates of the training workshops

The workshop consists of a single three-hour session. Two schedules and dates are offered:

  • February 3, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
  • February 4, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Workshop registration and participant selection

Given that the topic addressed in this course is quite transversal, the number of applications may exceed the number of places available (for each profile). If this occurs, efforts will be made to ensure diversity across research groups/labs/topics, so that this initiative and the training it offers are distributed as broadly as possible. Therefore, it is important that the registration form be completed accurately, as the information provided by applicants will be taken into account when allocating places.

The registration deadline is January 27, 2026. Registration is now open and must be completed via the following form:
