The Mind, Brain and Behavior Research Center (CIMCYC) has partnered with Maldita.es Foundation to provide scientific expertise in the fight against hoaxes and disinformation.

Maldita.es is a leading Spanish foundation and news organization focused on fact-checking and data journalism. Their mission is to combat the spread of disinformation through journalism, policy advocacy, technology, education and media literacy. One of its strongest areas of work is training citizens to identify “fake news” and to report false or misleading content.

The CIMCYC is now integrated into the “Superpoderes” (Superpower) community, an initiative led by the Maldita.es Foundation. Through this partnership, our center joins a network of experts who collaborate with Maldita.es to verify data, debunk scientific myths and ensure that the public has access to evidence-based information.

This collaboration is strategically important because misinformation related to psychology, neuroscience and mental health spreads rapidly across social media and digital ecosystems. In this context, the CIMCYC will provide evidence-based advice? and information on complex scientific topics that are often oversimplified or distorted online. In addition, CIMCYC researchers will contribute with scientific verification at the “Buloteca”, reviewing viral claims about behavior, mind and brain, and may serve as expert sources for Maldita articles.

Misinformation and disinformation have serious real-world consequences, especially when it concerns health and human behavior. By joining forces with the Maldita initiative, the CIMCYC supports that the "superpower of knowledge” is put at the service of the community to build a more critical and better-informed society.

This initiative aligns with CIMCYC’s strategic commitment to addressing disinformation through research, outreach and knowledge transfer.
