CIMCYC Researcher Teresa Bajo Recognized with 2025 Clifford T. Morgan Distinguished Leadership Award

Teresa Bajo, Director of the Memory and Language Laboratory at the Mind, Brain and Behavior Research Center (CIMCYC) and full professor in experimental psychology at the University of Granada, has been honored with the 2025 Clifford T. Morgan Distinguished Leadership Award by the Psychonomic Society.

This esteemed award recognizes individuals for their significant and sustained contributions to the field of cognitive psychology, as well as their leadership and service to the discipline over a period of more than ten years.

Researcher Bajo's career spans decades of dedicated research and academic leadership. She holds a BA from the University of Granada and completed her Master's and PhD studies at the University of South Florida as a Fulbright fellow. Her primary research focuses on memory retrieval, lexical access in monolingual and bilingual contexts, and the role of inhibition in memory and language selection, with extensions to complex language skills like translation and interpreting.

Her leadership contributions include co-founding the Spanish Society of Experimental Psychology (SEPEX) and the European chapter of Women for Cognitive Science (E-WICS). She also served as president of the European Society for Cognitive Psychology (ESCoP) and is an honorary member of the society. In 2020, she received the Advanced Career Award from SEPEX. She served as a member of the Governing Board of the Psychonomic Society and as chair of the Psychonomic Society's International Presence Committee (2013-2018). Currently, she is a member of the Board of Directors of the Association for Psychological Science and Guarantor Researcher for the María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence at the CIMCYC.

Teresa Bajo will officially receive the award during the Awards Ceremony & Business Meeting at the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Psychonomic Society, scheduled for November 20-23 in Denver, Colorado, USA.

The Clifford T. Morgan Distinguished Leadership Award recognizes recipients' commitment to scientific and methodological rigor in the experimental study of cognition, as well as their dedication to advancing the Psychonomic Society's mission of fostering cognitive science through basic research and communication. The award is named in honor of Clifford T. Morgan, a founding member and the first Governing Board Chair of the Psychonomic Society.
