A hallmark of CIMCYC is its gender research, which analyzes the psychological foundations and brain correlates of discrimination and gender-based violence, often through significant international collaborations. This research has confirmed that the difficulty in perceiving gender discrimination and violence is related to ideological variables, prejudiced beliefs and myths, as well as gender power asymmetry.

In the case of intimate partner violence against women, we have made significant contributions to unraveling the role of individual, interpersonal and macro-social structural factors in its prediction. Our research on the study of structural brain differences in female victims is internationally recognized. This research has been transferred to society, for example, by conducting the first macro-survey on intimate partner violence in the country of El Salvador.

CIMCYC researchers have also made very relevant contributions related to the study of other forms of violence against women, such as sexual aggression or street harassment. Additionally, we are making contributions to address the challenges of sexism and gender discrimination.
