The Board of Directors the Spanish Society of Experimental Psychology (SEPEX) has announced the results of the Award for the Best Scientific Publication of 2024, across its two categories: the Young SEPEX Award and the Psicologica Award. Publications from the Mind, Brain and Behavior Research Center (CIMCYC) were honored in both categories.

Young SEPEX Award Category 2024

Following an evaluation of fifteen applications, the SEPEX Board of Directors selected three articles as finalists, all published by researchers from the CIMCYC:

Following an evaluation carried out by a member of the SEPEX Board of Directors and an external researcher, the Young SEPEX Award 2024 was presented to the article "Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder symptoms as a function of arousal and executive vigilance: Testing Halperin and Schulz’s neurodevelopmental model in a sample of community adults," published by the CIMCYC researchers Tao Coll Martín, Hugo Carretero Dios and Juan Lupiáñez. The evaluation team emphasized:

“In terms of scientific ethics, this study is exemplary. The authors share their data and code, follow open science practices, and chose to publish in a diamond open-access journal, highlighting their commitment to inclusive and accessible science. Overall, this is a rigorous, transparent, and relevant study whose contribution to strengthening scientific best practices and clarifying theoretical frameworks in ADHD research deserves recognition," destacó el equipo evaluador.

The board also valued that “this is an excellent piece of research that takes the bold step of replicating and extending prior work by the authors in a larger online sample, while critically evaluating a widely cited neurodevelopmental model with significant prognostic and therapeutic implications.”

Psicológica Award Category

The journal Psicológica selected three finalist articles from ten works published during 2024. Following a rigorous evaluation process, the SEPEX Board of Directors granted the Psicológica Award 2024 to the publication “The Effect of Economic Inequality on Individuals' Cooperative Behavior Using an Economic Experiment,” published by Mar Montoya Lozano, Guillermo B. Willis and Rosa Rodríguez Bailón, researchers from the CIMCYC's Social Problems Psychology Group.

The evaluation team highlighted various aspects of the publication:

"The strength of the article resides in the scientific and social relevance of the question, the novelty of some of the variables manipulated and the strong theoretical foundation (excellent introduction and discussion). Furthermore, the article is excellent from the point of view of replicability and scientific ethics."
